Hungarian and Italian Athletes Lead as Kaunas Heats Up on Day Two

Day two of the 2025 European U15 & U19 Modern Pentathlon Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania brought thrilling qualification rounds for both the U15 Men and U19 Women, as young pentathletes battled for their place in the finals.

In the U15 Men’s Qualification, the competition was split into two groups. In Group A, D. Fulop Szabo (HUN) led the field with 1173 points, followed closely by compatriot Balazs Suto, just two points behind. Thomas Lay (GBR) impressed with the fastest swimming time in the group, securing third place.

Group B saw a dominant performance by Fabio Massimo Del Moro (ITA), who topped the group with 1181 points, showing excellent balance across all three events. Zalan Koselak (HUN) and Serhan Efe Ucari (TUR) tied for second with 1172 points each, setting the stage for a competitive final. The top 18 from each group now advance to Tuesday’s final, where medals will be decided.

Meanwhile, in the U19 Women’s Qualification, two groups also competed across all four disciplines: Fencing Ranking Round, Obstacle Discipline, Swimming, and Laser Run. In Group A, Diana Rajncsak (HUN) topped the leaderboard with 1370 points, followed by Guste Peciulyte (LTU) and Nadja Farmand (GER)—both scoring an identical 1324 points.

Group B featured an outstanding all-around performance by Martina Rutkauskaite (LTU), who took first with 1403 points. Italy’s Annachiara Allara finished second, and Yaren Kalender (TUR) claimed third. The top 18 athletes in each group now move on to Wednesday’s final.


Coming Up – Tuesday, July 29

Finals begin in earnest on Tuesday with three medal events. The U15 Women’s and U15 Men’s Finals will see the youngest competitors vie for European titles in Obstacle Discipline, Swimming, and Laser Run.

In parallel, the spotlight will also shine on the U19 Men’s Final, where the top 36 qualifiers from Sunday will return to compete once again—this time with medals on the line. The full format includes the Fencing Ranking Round, Obstacle Discipline, Swimming, and Laser Run, ensuring a complete test of each athlete’s all-around capabilities.

With the first champions of the week soon to be crowned, the intensity in Kaunas is only building.
