The 2025 European U19 Modern Pentathlon Championships kicked off with a showcase of teamwork and talent during the Women’s and Men’s Relay events in Kaunas, Lithuania.
In the Women’s Relay, Germany took the top spot with an excellent overall performance by Amaya El-Masri and Nadja Farmand, scoring 1341 points. A strong finish in the laser run helped secure gold. Hungary, led by Emma Herbak and Diana Drajnsak, came in a close second with 1322 points, while Italy’s Annachiara Dallara and Alessia Canto claimed bronze with 1308 points.
The Men’s Relay offered an equally tight contest. Czechia’s Tobias Raska and Dan Vorlicek edged out the competition with 1445 points, thanks to outstanding fencing and swimming scores. Germany followed with 1436 points, and host nation Lithuania earned bronze with 1435 points, led by Juras Sandanavicius and Liutauras Valeika, energizing the local supporters.
Relay events provide athletes with more than just a shot at medals—they offer key preparation for the individual events. The shorter distance allows competitors to fine-tune tactics, manage race-day nerves, and test strategies in a competitive setting. It’s also a unique opportunity to observe and engage with future individual rivals, gaining valuable insight ahead of the main event.
The action continues this weekend and into next week. On Sunday, July 27, competition begins with the U15 Women’s Qualification (Obstacle Discipline, Swimming, Laser Run), while U19 Men will complete their Fencing Ranking Round, followed by Obstacle, Swimming, and Laser Run events. Monday, July 28 features the second stage of U19 Men’s Qualification, and the U19 Women begin their competition with fencing and the full qualification triad. These opening stages are critical for athletes to secure their spot in the finals and get comfortable in the competitive rhythm.
With an exciting week ahead, the Championships promise a full display of Europe’s most promising young pentathletes. The relay results set the stage for a high-energy competition to come.
